Chrome? Brass? Steel? Why? Last viewed: 56 minutes ago

[SIZE="4"]Just dropped in for a question.

I had a pearl snare drum for sale.

looking here seems it is Chrome.

Someone asked me if a magnet will stick to it.

??????

To figure if it was Chrome? Which it looks like

Steel, which I guess it looks like?

Brass? which I think it would be that color then?

why would brass not be gold colored?

I don't know much about metals to know what would

not allow a magnet to stick to it? or difference in them all.

For all I know steel is chrome. ?

How do I tell if it's chrome, steel, or brass?

Anyway, the magnet sticks to it ..hard n fast.[/SIZE]

Chromed Steel. If the magnet did not stick, it would be Chromed Brass, if it was yellowish, no chrome, all Brass. What about the hoops, do the same test ?

Chrome is the finish (mirror like, usually). The shell would be: Steel, Brass or Aluminum. Magnets will stick to Steel. Steel and Brass can be Chrome plated, Aluminum can not. So if a magnet does not stick to it, it is Brass.

I don't know why anyone would Chrome plate a Brass shell to begin with but, it's always been done.
