60's Premier Olympic help... Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Loading...

Hey guys!

I have been in contact with a person selling this kit, and need some info if possible based on the one picture they have provided (and oddly the only one they can provide). Anyway, the guy lives about 3 hours from me, luckily I'm heading there in two weeks so can have a look.

Just from this photo though, I'm curious..

Why does the Tom and floor Tom have no lugs on the bottom? Also is the black band around the rims from this era? Is this design from a particular Olympic kit from the 60's or have the bottom lugs (sadly) been removed?

Is this even an Olympic? I know I'd have to see it, but maybe someone on here can tell straight away whether it's a stencil and he's confused/being dodgy....

I can't find any 60's Olympic kit online that looks like this one...

The guy seems to be not very computer savvy as he's selling this through a friend of his, so I can't get any more info until I get down there.

It has the Zyn cymbals (not sure if they are the Zyn, 2 star or 5 star supers. Guy doesn't know).

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

They look very British. All I can tell.

There is an Olympic website, you could check that out.

Toms maybe concert toms (intended to only have batter heads)

Cheers guys.

Oddball thank you particularly for the picture. The guy contacted me and said exactly that, they are '58 Olympic "jazz travellers" as he called them. The toms are designed to fit into each other for ease of travel (not sure if "jazz traveller" was the official model name or he made that up). All sizes are correct as per the picture except he said the bass drum is a "22.... Custom made maybe????

It's from his brothers estate who has sadly passed on. He also mentioned that the original wrap and badges are somewhere and he will find them for me. Has a premier kick pedal from the time also (not sure what series or year though).

Paid AU$400, (US$285 GBP£198)

Looking forward to cleaning it up.

Well, bit worse for wear than I was hoping, yet still salvageable. Some pitting, but mostly removable. Has the Ajax cymbals, which I am better of turning into "exotic" effects cymbals than actually using them in the set haha.

Any tips on cleaning rims/stands/lugs etc?

Cheers

Another picture, the kick pedal is really smooth for its age.
