Cases for Vintage Drums Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Thank you guys for the terrific response to my post a couple of weeks ago asking if you gig your vintage drums.

Now my question, for those of you that do gig your vintage drums, is: what type of cases do you use and where's the best source to purchase them?

Thanks, jfra545365

i use a combination of 'em, depending on the gig. i like either tuxedo or beato bags for the soft layer, and either h&b hard shell or those semi-hard made in canada ones. i also use a trap case on casters. those do it for me.

I use SKB Roto-X cases. They protect and they stack.

I pack my 14" "base" drum into an old Humes & Berg Fibre case from the mid-70's. I use some liners a friend made from some leftover car upholstery project and then stack my Acrolite on top of that (in a soft bag). That goes onto my Ruxxack cart and gets bungeed to the cart. Then I use a soft travel bag I got in a free pile at a garage sale for my stands. It's made of that rip-resistant nylon stuff and I use all lightweight hardware. Then I stack my 12" tom in its own Fibre case (same vintage as the other one). Then my cymbals go into a Sabian soft bag that I loop the strap over the front of the hardware case and the tom stacked on it -like a shield...kinda. And then I have a tri-folded bar mat I use for my rug over the front of the cymbal bag. That gets bungeed to the upper portion of the Ruxxack cart. Then, lastly, I stack my homemade base drum cradle and Roc-N-Soc nitro throne laid sideways on the very top. All that gets bungeed to the cart. Voila! One trip in. One trip out. Easy to pack all excess bags, etc. into the 16" fibre case and leave that strapped to the cart. Fold the upper handle portion of the Ruxxack over that and roll into a dark corner.

My basic standard is Tuxedo Bags.

Next is the bag in a H&B Enduro Case.

And for the best protection.... I have a set of touring ATA cases.

All depends on the gig, space, and necessity.

My current non-vintage kit is kept in Protection Racket bags with a solid Protechtor Case for the snare. I've been very happy with both.

I have several cymbal bags. I'm happiest with the Paiste ... it holds more cymbals and offers the best protection.

I'm in the market for cases for the Slingerlands I'm about to acquire. I would like to get solid cases, but I'll probably use what I have in the short term.
