THANK YOU for all the nice comments!, and... I want to take a moment to respond to each! So, in order...
Jack/Ploughman! It really was amazing to me Jack, the QUALITY of that snare drum and build. Top shelf all the way! And that was their entry level snare drum??!! Rogers just built GREAT drums before they were compromised by ahem, CBS. As to the OEM batter head: I know! How bizarre is that?!,and for a REMO WK Diplomat, it still sounds very crisp! I don't think this drum was played much originally, or even ever out of the house! Glad you enjoyed!
Gary/BBK! Like so many of us "old timers", I was instructed originally using traditional grip! I started to make the switch back in 1976!, but have maintained my trad grip technique as well! Truth be told, for press rolls, open rolls, and brushes, I still play traditional grip. Everything else is played with match. Being able to switch back and forth works for me! As to the Blaemire: YES!!!!! Gotta send you an email/PM. The only fiberglass experience I have is with my Fibes BR models. Would LOVE to check out a Blaemire!
Mark/JR! Thanks JR, and glad you enjoyed! I thought YOU might really be interested in the Rogers R360 snare drum as they truly play/sound great for the price point you can find them at! Very articulate with full sensitivity, yet almost the warmth of a wood shell... but the "cut" of a COS shell. THANKS for the nice words!
Mark/idrum4fun! THANKS Mark! I know we like the same things when it comes to snare drums/drums, etc. I really am amazed at how incredible this snare drum is for ENTRY LEVEL... except the only thing entry level about it is the price. True on the not playing it enough. I have my main snare drums that I work with constantly, so I wouldn't ever gig this drum on a steady basis... but one could! It's pro level all the way.
Glenn/FFR428! THANKS Glenn, and glad you liked! There's a snare to keep your eyes open for! Incredible crispness/sensitivity, but with a LOT of body and a nice rim shot. Almost sounds like a wood shell at times! The SABIANS on this set are my "practice cymbals", as are those Ludwigs. Because of that, those are the SABIAN AA series, where as my gigging cymbals are all SABIAN HH series. The AA's are closer to BR's A Zildjians actually!,but I like the slightly dark/smokey flavor of the HH's for LIVE playing. THANKS for the comments Glenn!
Spartacus! THANK YOU for the nice words! I will say that those 1997 Ludwigs are indeed, not quite vintage .. yet .. but they are also just my practice set and stay set up in my drum room. I gig on 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's!, and those are quite vintage. I'll attach a pic of the '65 BR Celebrity's for you, and hopefully you will enjoy! I have to say that after I got those Ludwigs .. ( and these were a Ludwig endorsers set!, but he went over to DW, and made me a deal I couldn't refuse ) .. I did gig them for a year as they DO sound nice!... but for me, not quite as nice as my Rogers. So, they became my practice set!, but... they could be gigged anytime of course. Top shelf/built drums! THANKS for the comments!
