I owned a set of Catalina Maples about 4 years ago. They had a narrow tuning range and I could not get used to the "little drum"configuration. No 13,which is my favorite MT size. Sold them for what they cost me before they go scratched up...

I would really love to come across a WFL or something from the 40's/50's that is worn so bad that a new finish is in order. I almost bought Kevins Zephers but was concerned about the wrap on the floor tom, how it is imbedded into the scarf joint. Someday, I will find one.

They can be decent drums, but I found that around here in good condition, trade ins at GC are about $500 at resale, with HW.. For $450 I bet you will find something that will grow in value with a nice new finish. Good Luck.
