Identify white marine pearl Gretch year please Last viewed: 1 second ago

A good friend of mine drove by an estate sale and pulled over when he saw this Gretch. The widow sold it to him for $250.00 with 3 cymbals, all hardware, and all the drums you see.

Anyway what year is this kit? Came with the brass snare.

Let me get this straight, he got everything in the picture? Mind Blowi

If the sizes are 22/12/13/16 and the 8-lug COB snare, it could be the Blackhawk II.

Serial numbers will help with the dating. It is a Stop Sign Badge (version #1) kit, also known as SSB#1, which started in the very very late 60's and ran until mid 1979. The badge reads "That Great Gretsch Sound".

Awesome find!

Just saw your updates ... $250! OMG! The snare is worth more than that. Summer is here. Everyone keep your eyes peeled for yard sales.

I'd go back and offer the uninformed, distraught widow another $300. No way I could live with that bad karma hanging over me :)

The hoops are MIJ on the BD? Or the entire kit? Also is this a 1971 kit?

They were already feeling the heat from Japan,so were cutting corners...metal hoops must have been cheaper then wood.....

Great to know. Please don't have your friend remove the inlay. :D

Please get the serial numbers, if you friend doesn't mind. Since these were only offered in 1971, it may help date other drums prior to and after this year. I have a SSB#1 kit and my S/N are in the 00490 to 00550 range (low number because of a S/N reset at Gretsch). I've been trying to get a more accurate date, other than late 60's or early 70's.
