Ludwig Standard Snares = Jazz Festival? Last viewed: 24 minutes ago

Loading...

The Standard series has become more popular lately, as can be noted by the increase of prices on both CL and eBay. All the shells are drilled for the same hole spacing as the Classic series, so it's easy to swap out lugs if you desire. My first Standard kit (see attached pictures) was an S-300 (12-14-20-14) in Blue Mist. All shells had white Resocoat interiors, so I knew the kit was an early issue. Ludwig changed to Granitone fairly quick with the Standard series.

My Standard snare drum did come with a P-83, but it was temporarily replaced with a newer P-85 so I could make use of snare straps.

Ahhh... another wonderful kit that has passed through my life!

I have two Standard snares. One came with the kit, the other is an orphan I picked up from C/L.

Both have Granitone interior paint. As has been mentioned, the shells are exactly the same as a Jazz Festival. The butt, strainer (P-83) and maybe even the rims are exactly the same. The difference is the lugs and the wrap / badge.

Just for info: my 12" rack tom on my standard kit has the normal white painted interior. All the rest are Granitone.

With similar heads, it's really hard to tell them apart. I've tried... both my Standard snares are from '69, and I used to own a '68 WMP Jazz Festival.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Man, that was my first REAL kit! A Standard Blue Mist that my Dad got for me used in 1986. Same sizes as yours, but no floor tom (Rack, Snare & Bass only). I also had the shell mount cymbal holder and original cymbal arm, original heads, original HH Stand and P-83 on the snare. My spurs looked different than yours, though. Mine were straight and not angled or curved. Something about that Blue Mist finish, not quite Blue, not quite Teal or Turquoise just...................so awesome and pretty to look at! Mine had Granitone interiors also. I would really like to have another one someday (with the floor tom). It's true about prices increasing on Standards. Sadly, on the Blue Mists I can find, either they are priced too steeply, or the wrap has faded into an almost Sea Foam Green-ish color.
