Now I've seen it all! Last viewed: 52 minutes ago

Out in the tiny shed beside my house resides (amongst other ham radio and drum projects) a 1964 Ludwig 20, 12, 16, with the 14 X 5 Jazz Festival. I paid $25.00 for the kit at a yard sale a couple years back... great deal!

Except...

The drums have been stripped and stained, inside and out. Luckily all the hardware is there, on all the drums, but the previous owner was quite meticulous with his handy work... yep, stripped and stained an ugly walnut stain to boot. Oh yeah, the bass. I call it the sieve drum. It's had more 'improvements' made to it than I can imagine... and each 'improvement' required new holes.

Someday, I'm going to do it, I'm going to restore that thing and it's going to be a fine n dandy gig kit...

But not tomorrow... first I have to work up the nerve.

Hmmm... Somehow half of my post decided to vacation in Coalinga... Let's see if I remember what else I said...

I still think they are worth restoring, even in the condition they are in. If I decide to sell 'em, they'll be cheap. If I decide to play 'em, I won't have to worry about dinging them up. None of these drums were ever an exact science anyway, especially Ludwig after '64 and the Beatles. And another thing...

I can recover these in whatever wrap I want. Anything that strikes my fancy, and I can't kill the value of the drums, since there isn't any.

I'm thinking of going with a Royal Purple Swirl and Flatulent Bunny wrap... kinda like my playing now-a-days.

I'd have to say for $100 you ended up with a great project kit and a bunch of free cymbals. Or maybe the drums were free and it was a killer deal on cymbals. (Is the glass half full or half empty? I always thought it was twice as big as it ought to be)

Fill the holes and re-wrap. It will be a fantastic kit again.

DaddyNowhere - couldn't agree more... Done and done. I'll probably start another thread once I get around to starting this project.

Jaghog - I will definitely give it a good honest effort.

Fishwaltz - Well put. Great opportunity to have some fun with them. Let us know when you embark on that adventure. I'm sure we'd all like to see what you do with them.

Tnsquint - the glass is half full from where I'm sitting :) The $100 was a no brainer, great deal any way you slice it IMO. I agree, holes will be filled, tubs will be wrapped, and beats will be played once again!
