Scam on Ebay? Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

O-lugs, thats exactly what I'm talking about. What gets me is that ebay allows these people to even look at the stuff if its not for sale in another country. I used to list my stuff USA only and I would get questions all the time about how much to ship to Italy or Japan, or where-ever. I usually just ignored and deleted those question. If you can't read english correctly then you're not bidding on my stuff. I used to make sure that ebay automatically blocked any bidders that were not from the country I sold it in/to. And ebay is so pro-buyer now it isn't funny. Its almost like as a seller you're considered a scam or rip-off artist automatically. If something goes wrong and the idiot, excuse me I mean buyer, gives you negative feedback for it, deserved or not, a seller can't leave negative feedback back any longer in return. Is that fair? I think not! The listing fees came way down, but the final value fees are rediculous and now the only way you can accept payment is with Paypal (another ebay company) and they take money out too! In the autoparts biz we call that double-dipping and is pretty much frowned upon. Should be illegal, but it isn't.

So, good luck to all of you guys that continue to sell on there....its not worth the aggrevation to me anymore. I'm so ticked off at them now that I won't even buy off of ebay anymore. And don't get me started about the morons that responded to my ads I used to post on Craigslist! DOH

Easy. Only buy from brick and mortar drum shops or people you can go and pick the stuff up from. If they try to put the screws to you, you at least know where to go to put a cement block through the front window.Eye Ball

In all seriousness, person to person bidness transactin' alleviates most of the b.s. that is posted weekly about ebay. People are much less likely to do or say the things that get typed and emailed. And they are also much less likely to feel comfortable about pulling any bull on somebody that just picked up something from their shop/house etc. The cyber world allows a much larger comfort zone with the anonymity that comes with it.

For the fourth time. Anybody of sound mind and body willing to forward their hard earned money to a total stranger based off of what is written on a computer bears all the burden when things go bad. And based off of the posts about ebay on this forum alone, things apparently go badly often.

I totally agree with everything you guys are saying about ebay. I hate using them and the fees are through the roof. That said, for me they are a necessary evil. I've tried to see and or promote some stuff on this board and have yet to sell a thing. I have had good luck on some guitar forums though (play guitar too). I have never not sold something on ebay. I just try price my stuff to cover the added costs to sell there :( I have done 60 or so transactions on ebay and fortunately have had only two issues. Both were "user" error; one with an amplifier and one with a guy who couldn't figure out how to get a transmission into reverse on a '74 Z-28...

L-D,

That's just it...the guy is IN America...but he isn't from here. Maybe he's a good sort of chap....we'll see. But I just have a feeling. I had hoped that only audiophile-types would be interested in this item, and was hoping for a bidding war...but no. And, of course, the guy is on the other side of the country.

I fully expect him to try and pull some stuff. And now as a seller, there is little I can do about it if he does.

That's not so easy for those of us who live in rural areas. If I limited myself to the brick & mortar shops within a few hours' drive, I'd be severely restricting my selection and drastically overpaying for a lot of things. Sure there's risk buying from private parties online, but for some of us, a calculated risk is our best option.

You are speaking to the choir, sir. My town has two red lights and 3500 people. I claim Pittsburgh as home because it shows up on the map.

I am not that old, but real old school and ebay just doesn't do it for me. It should be pointed out that there are thousands of good transactions that take place to every bad one and it seems we only seriously debate the bad ones, of this I am sure. For every thread started about a bad ebay scam, I would bet that the membership of this site alone completed at or over a hundred good ones in the same time between those bad threads. I am not a proponent of the bay, just being realistic. I stated earlier that things go bad often, but at probably a very low percentage of the total transactions.

I agree with your calculated risk statement though. If you negotiate and get a warm fuzzy feeling, it is probably going to be a good transaction. The best scammers know how to instill this confidence, though, hence the tag con-men. If it takes me ten years to get my t-rods and claws, so be it. It isn't like they are going to make me play any better anyways...LOL.

I am certain of this as well - Impatience, haste and just plain being American and needing it right now and having to have it are the food stuffs that feed the scammers'.

Another way he could have known he had huge interest in it was by the number of watchers. This is a great indicator. And I have had the same thing happen to me, and it was a musiic store in W.VA. if memory serves. He is selling nice, new brand name, as in a new company making hand hammered cymbals for really cheap.
