1400 trouble Last viewed: 19 hours ago

I have two Ludwig model 1400 stands, and they've been my favorite stands so far. But, the top threaded section of the tilter keeps coming off while I'm playing. I'm guessing it's a common problem, because when I got them one of the stands was missing that section. So, I put thread locker in one of them, and it's held up so far, but what would you guys suggest? I just got a new crash, and I'm very worried about damaging it. Help2 ?

The top post will unscrew if it turns counter clockwise. Thread locker on the other one seems in order, if you can't tighten it up enough that it won't come unscrewed.

Thanks for the reply, but you seem to have misunderstood. 1400's don't screw in.

The tilter apears to be fixed on to the stand, but they come loose. Thy have the have the same tongue and groove type system on the top threaded part. (where the wing nut screws on) that's where it keeps coming loose and falling off.

Is there anybody who has experienced this problem and might be able to help?

I would put some Teflon tape (or whatever floats your boat) around the post prior to placing it back on. I would then run a nylon wire tie through the old cotter pin hole and tighten it on up. I've done this to a Ludwig snare stand and it holds the basket on just fine.

I've had the tilter come off but never the threaded screw. The tape idea sounds good but so does your original idea of using thread lock. How tightly do you screw the wing nut over the cymbal?
