14''x14'' Blue Oyster pearl Floor Tom? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Well there's one on ebay right now, wish I could afford it. My dad has every drum made in blue oyster pearl from the 70's except this one.

Is it super rare? I'd love to get him one someday. He has a 20'' floor tom, 18'' floor tom and 16'' floor tom. Also every flying tom and 2-3 different sized bass drums.

Currently its his playing kit, he bought it in 74 and still has his sales receipt. If he sets it all up at the house I'd love to show you guys. I like the looks of drums, but not being a drummer, it doesn't do for me what it does for my dad. He loves drums. I wish I could convince him to use an online forum such as this one, but hes way to computer illiterate. I think he would really enjoy it though.

Thanks for any input on the 14x14 blue oyster pearl.

We'd love to see pics if you can make that happen. I love blue, and blue oyster is my favorite of all! I can't speak to its rarity - I'll leave that to the more knowledgeable members - but I know I don't see it very often.

If you can talk your dad into joining, I'm sure he'd enjoy it tremendously. Especially if he likes talking shop!

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

I think its reaaly cool how you are looking out for your dad and have some interest in what he does. His drums must be a site to see, I too wish you could afford the ebay drum, just ticks you off what some people ask for some of these drums.

Hang around and show your dad some of the pictures in the drum gallery here on this forum, he could at least enjoy that.

Is this the one (eBay item #290667217631)?

I see this one has one bid... and yeah, it's expensive, but I'm not suprized. Personally, I've never seen a 14x14 in this finish.

I like the "oyster" pearls. I do like the 60s versions better, but the 70s are pretty sharp IMO, too.

Jeff -- have you tried anything with that patch yet?

I haven't touched my Ludwig Rockers set yet... too many other things (that will bring more money) ahead of it.

I am at work and can't see the ebay link but if the drum in question is the bowling ball oyster blue, then it's quite rare. By the early 70's most of the Ludwig drums were bigger sized. most floor toms were 16" and up. They did still make jazzette sets and downbeat sets in the 70's but not nearly the wat they made the bigger sets. Oyster blue was also a color more used on bigger sets then as I have never seen a downbeat or a jazzette from the 70's in oyster blue bowling ball. Obviously they probably existed but they are quite rare.

If your dad has always wanted a drum like this to match the set, then I'm sure he would be super grateful to get this as finding another anytime soon is highly unlikely. Good luck!

The time to buy one is when you see one. You never see these.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
