16" x 16" Red Sparkle Floor Tom-MIJ Last viewed: 22 hours ago

Hello,

I have a mid 70's CB 700 (don't laugh) 5 piece kit that I tricked out, re-did bearing edges etc. and sounds great. The sizes are 8" x 12", 9" x 13" and 14" x 14" Floor tom, with a 14" x 20" bass. I am happy with the 14" floor tom, but it seems to me that a 16" would be a more natural fit for 12" and 13" rack toms.

It is a red sparkle kit, but what I am seeking doesn't necessarily have to be CB 700 brand (although that would be nice if anyone has one). I would like it to be 8 lug. The "Generic Pearl Style" lugs that my CB 700 kit has are readily available, so I could always replace the lugs to make them match, assuming the hole spacing on the shell was correct. So I guess what I am asking is:

Does anyone have a CB 700 (or an MIJ equivalent) red sparkle 16" x 16" Floor Tom with either the generic Pearl style lugs or the equivalent hole spacing on the shell for those lugs? See link for lug picture and hole spacing.

If this comes to fruition, I would have the above 14" x 14" Floor Tom available for trade or sale. It has double 45 degree bearing edges done by Precision Drum Co., a 1/2" threaded chrome air-vent and upgraded 2.3mm Gibraltar hoops. I would use the lugs/brackets/legs for my new drum, but the shell and wrap are in great shape and the bearing edges are flawless!

Thanks,

V

Are your current drums the earlier 70's red sparkle or the later 70's glass glitter? Many Pearl stencils (CB, Whitehall, Reuther, etc.) moved in the mid 70's to a far mroe attractive glass glitter wrap from the slightly duller red sparkle of the 60's.

I think it's more of a Glitter finish. It was missing bass drum hoops, so I ordered natural hoops with red sparkle inlay (as opposed to red glitter) and it looks fine against it, but a little more "pedestrian" and not quite as brilliant or sparkly as the rest of the drums. So I think either one would work.
