18" bassdrum dilemma Last viewed: 4 hours ago

hi there,

i want a 18" bassdrum for my 20/12/14 round badge gretsch set!

of course not for originality but as a sound option.

now these drums unfortunately dont come in reasonable price when they show up at all.

even the stop sign badge versions are hard to find.

does anyone have a suggestion what i could do?

roll my own?

thanks!

I think you should stick with the 20 until an affordable 18 Gretsch comes up. Anything else will not have "that great Gretsch sound".

You could just get a keller shell and do it yourself. How are your skills?

I have a round badge 20/12/16 and what I did was convert the 16 to a bass drum with keller hoops.I then bought a stop sign badge 14x12 tom and put floor tom legs on it. When I play small places I use a 16/12/14 setup and I can always take off the keller hoops and put the diecast ones back on the 16 for the 20/16/12 setup. You can find a round badge 16 more often than a 18.
