Hi,

I just got this one off of eBay: 1900s 3.5x15.5 Duplex snare drum.

The drum is all original, in excellent-plus condition and needs no cleaning or restoration.

Extra bonuses were the original case and the original Duplex drum key...enjoy!

How does it sound....? Original calf heads and cloth snares...like a 1900s snare drum.

Cloth snares are like waxed shoelaces wrapped in a wide coil of lightweight wire (thread, really).

I saw that auction and thought, "Mike Curotto will soon own that one." I really did! And sure enough....

That's wire-wound silk. Before that was woven silk and/or cotton, with no metal component in them. Kind of like an elegant gut snare. They didn't hold up too well and are hard to find in good condition.
