Hey guys. I am considering purchasing a 1930's Ludwig Pioneer. It seems to be in really nice original condition. This is the wood version obviously. Is this a mahogany drum? Maple re-rings? Does anyone have any experience with Pioneer's from his era? Any idea what a fair value for a 15x8 version would be? Thanks guys!

Here are some pics.
Great looking drum, and pretty rare in that condition.
But, 15's aren't as collected as 14's, and don't seem to get big bucks.
Maybe a few hundred bucks I'd guess. Maybe 400-500?
I could be way off on this one though.........
Thanks man! Anyone else familiar with these?
I have that same drum, the tone control has been added to
Yours. It's a big tubby fat sounding drum. I paid about 275 for
Mine.
Nice drum
That's probably an after-market tone control...that tc would not be placed where it is now...looks like a Ludwig tc though.

I have a 5x14, same era. Solid mahogany shell with maple re rings. I use it with a calfskin head. My favorite drum.
I have nearly the exact same drum.
It is about 6-3/4" deep x 15", Solid 1-ply mahogany w/ maple re-rings, and has the exact same Tone control in the same spot.
Stamped "3908" inside the shell behind the badge.
I would like to know it's value as well???
