1936 5x14 Silver Anniversary Super Ludwig Last viewed: 14 hours ago

Here is a nice 1936 Silver Anniversary Super Ludwig that I picked up complete with original snares and a pair of calf heads. According to the catalog, this particular drum features the "Ludwig Pearl and Chromium plated fittings" option which added an extra $20 to the base price.

The single ply shell has a painted interior, 3607 date stamp, L&L white oval badge, and a knob muffler. The chrome plated hardware features the first generation Imperial lugs (no inserts, tension rods thread directly into the lugs) and Ludwig's redesigned strainer (cast lever arm, snare guards attach to the lower hoop rather than the tension rods)

The drum was very dirty and had quite a bit of pitting on the snare guards, lugs and tension rods. After cleaning, the lugs were buffed on the wheel to smooth out what was possible and Cape Cod cloths took care of the hoops etc.

A new set of heads were fitted and the drum sounds great! As always, I also hang on to the original calf heads.

The drum came from an estate in the Laurel Canyon/Hollywood Hills neighborhood and has a Hollywood Drum Shop rubber stamp on the bottom of the calf head.

Nice! There's just "something" about wood shelled Ludwigs and Imperial lugs.

Dang! Thats pretty! I have a 1940 (My birth year) Ludwig 6.5 wood snare on it's way to me as we speak. (So to speak). The wrap has been stripped on mine, but it's my birth year drum! Can't wait. Yours is glorious,

Very nice job on the resurrection cleanup. Absolutely brilliant. It all came together beautifully. (Gotta love those Cape Cod cloths!) A single ***eler's rouge pass on the wheel, or was there more, in getting that nickel to pop? Great pics, too, by the way. Well done!
