1937 Lyre Badge WFL Snare - one that you can afford - Ray Bauduc Last viewed: 27 minutes ago

So - I was picking up another huge MIJ lot a month or so ago and discovered a "snarebale" - snare used as a tom, cover in black contact paper.

Upon investigation, I was floored to discover it was the very rare 7x14 Lyre badge 1937 WFL Ray Bauduc Swing model snare - which featured the twin strainer. This is somewhat of a Holy Grail snare, though this one is a player's drum you can use :)

In the drum bags of parts included in the lot - were all the needed parts - except that the muffler is incomplete and the strainer was a Leedy replacement.

Details:

-Hoops are brass.

-3 ply Mahogany with rerings.

-The heads are barely used at all.

-The wires are new - I believe them to be the Germans from DFD.

-Contact paper removed, the shell (with it's lovely residue;) was cleaned and then it was polished (this is a big one!).

-Sounds amazing (IMHO)

-Notice the stamp on the inside of the shell - repaired in July of 1963, hard to make out who/where and what they did.

-Incomplete muffler is included

-WFL snare stand will be included. See pics in the video presentation. Genuine, authentic, period correct bottom with a more 'modern' top.

I just completed the restoration....as far as I am going to take it. I did not want to do anything to the edges (other than cleaning) or get too deep into the specific repairs - as I will not be the long term custodian of this rare bird.

This is a Player's drum - which is about 80% there.

Ideas for finishing this off:

-Some ply separation (though the re-ring is tight)

-Recut the edges - (personal preference)

-Fix the cosmetic appeal addressing the extra holes behind the strainer.

-replace the 2 non-original tension rods that are just to the right of the strainer (top and bottom)

-Complete and install the muffler

-Fix the strainer - which is a bit bent out of whack (but is working fine - smooth indeed) - see pic.

-Nickel plated parts were cleaned but not polished. Alot of wear on the lugs.

Opportunities for finishing this off 100%, though this is indeed fully functional and sounds and looks great already as is.

Indeed shoot me with any questions - the video presentation shows alot of the details, but specific questions may follow.

I am reluctantly listing a price:

These go for $500-600 if they are complete with the twin strainers. That is not the case here. At the same time, with it's very rare badge and remarkable backstory, it will make for one of the coolest player's snare ever - a great conversation piece that you can actually play! Perhaps you can afford this one for a change ;)

Asking $380

I have that same repair stamp in my 1952 Leedy & Ludwig Broadway. Not sure what was repaired either. Seems to be "The Drum Shop". I wondered if it was part of Leedy and/or Ludwig.

Frankly I am blown away by the lack of interest in this. This is a LYRE BADGE drum. Do you not know the history?? & the odds of finding one in a basement in Michigan among a bunch of MIJs.

?????
