That is a great photo! It says 1941 but it's prob more like late 40's. Classic lugs on all of the WFL drums she is using and the classic lug was not invented until 1946-47.

Phil Spitalny and his "All Girl Orchestra" was a very popular group in the bag band era. Great gimmick with very good musicians irrespective of gender. My cousin and I tried doing something similar in the mid 1970s. I Give Mr. Spitalny much credit for making it work. Our experience was like experiencing all of the cliche' situations we hear in the "girl vocalist" jokes, and multiplying that times five. They all sang well. The drummer had the best voice. We had them booked for $1,000 to $1,500 to play a guest one hour set at several venues before they even had one set's worth of cover material worked out. We supplied much of the band's instruments, the sound reinforcement, and the 1958 Pontiac ambulance for the gear hauler. The infighting broke up the band after they had played only three of those gigs. The band was named Jezebel. The Pontiac pictured is exactly the same type and color of the one we bought.
Does Ms. Smith have a facebook page?
Love her. I'm a fan of Viola. Bowing
