Hi All,
Here is one I've been working on for a little while. It's a 1940 (aluminum cloud badge,) Slingerland Radio King, 7" x 14". It was a mess when I got it, blue paint on everything, all hardware was covered in gunky dirt and needed serious detailing. The only thing missing is a 3-point strainer which, thanks to Blairdrums, will be here shortly, and I need a set of snares. I have been itching to finish this one and play it.
It came out great. There were imperfections in the wood under the heavy paint, but after stripping and sanding, I decided to leave a couple in because they lend the drum some real character. The hoops and hardware cleaned up nicely. Some of the nickel on the snare guards is worn, but again, it makes the drum look its age and kinda cool.
3-ply shell with re-rings. Mahogany inside, poplar, maple outside. Rock maple re-rings. I stained the natural wood a honey color which really makes it look very rich and inviting. I'm gonna have me some fun with this one!
Enjoy, another drum rescued from the trash heap!
