1946 Gretsch Round Badge Kit Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Just picked up a 1946 Gretch kit that I found on CL. (26, 12 14) The shell's have a 1946 date stamped on the inside. It has all the original hw, rocket lugs, tom mounts and mufflers. I don't have much info on it. Is it a BK kit? I checked the Vintage Drum site catalog pages and they don't go back this far.

It's missing 2 of the round badges. (Bass and 14" tom (has tack)) Other than that... it's very complete. If anyone has any round badges for sale... let me know.

Thank you!!

O great... now I'm a Gretsch guy too. :) I blame my W&A kit for this one because it has Gretsch /rocket lugs and tension rods.

I'm doing my usual clean, polish and hoop touch to it and that's it.

All the ply seems look solid (amazing... pics coming soon.)

Gotta nice Jazz gig this Friday in RI at the Dorrance and hope to use this kit if I finish it. If not... my early 40's Slingerland RK is coming out.

If anyone is in the area... come on out to check out some vintage in action. :)

Jeremy,

I would look for a 50's Gretsch 14 by 20 3 ply Bd in Gloss Black..Or,yellowed WPM...

You could use the 12 and 14 BroadKasters with those, and have a VERY sweet jazz kit...

O man... don't get me going. :) An 18" would be really sweet too. I do love the big bass drums with the small toms. I think I've gotten used to seeing the kits this way. 16" floors look too big to me now... even next to a 28" bass drum. (Yes... I'm now completely insane... :) )

I have heads off... and cleaned a few of the shell. I'll post pics soon.

Sweet kit. I like Blair's suggestion, a 20" would make that a killer jazz kit.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

The Gretsch is finished. Polished the shells and lugs, touched up the bass drum hoops, de-rusted all the lugs, claws and clips, lubed the swivel nut threads, new heads.

She looks and sounds great! Still looking for round badges for the bd and 14 tom. This kit is worth taking the plunge and buying them on ebay.

Can't wait to play it out this Friday.

Here's some pics:

VERY nice...

I dig the 12 a lot,and I like that you put the Remo logo at 6 'o'clock...

I see WAY too many at 12 'o'clock, then Rogers etc underneath that....doesn't look right!

Nice resto..

Ps...did you get the W and A muffler yet from me?

Thanks Brair! :)

I'm with you on 6 o'clock REMO logos. I have a Slingerland kit with the REMO and Slingerland logo at 12 and it doesn't look right.

I'm having a blast with these resto projects.

Brings me back to the days when I used to work at my friends fathers auto restoration shop. I worked there after school and summer breaks... all through high school and 2 summers of college.

We mainly restored cars from the 1920 - 50's. Pierce Arrow, Packards, Cord, Cadillac, etc. Same era of the drums I'm in to... total coincidence though.

Restoring drums is much easier and cheaper too. :)

I'll in back in Western MA next Monday. The W&A muffler should be there by now. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks!
