Great looking set. I have a Black and gold set and love the look of the duco's also. That bass drum badge looks a little strange to me though, where the spurs put on the wrong panels?

That badge placement is correct for many 50's models with that setup. The disappearing mount is top dead center. Wfl/Ludwig put the badge on the next panel over. Many of these would also have the hoop mounted clipper mount for the 13" tom. In the early 60's or so, they began placing the badge on the same panel with that disappearing cymbal mount.

The mid 60's Walberg and Auge set that I've owned twice (traded it away, and traded back for them) was factory wrapped in Salmon Satin Flame that was in sorry shape. I wanted a Duco set, and found out about Bum Wraps. They made a simulated Duco to emulate the Green/Silver/Green I had seen on an old WFL snare drum. I'm very pleased with the metamorphosis of this great drum set. I may wrap an old Rogers snare drum to match if I get tired of the Chrome Power Tone snare.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I think that's factory, to allow for the cymbal mount top center.

Hey guys

Thanks for all the nice comments - as you all know it's a labor of love. There's a lot of searching , wishing, hoping, and disappointments along the way. It's a good feeling to know that you've maybe saved some of these old drums that may have been one step or 2 away from the land fill. It's just a players kit but I hope a respectable example of drum making in the middle of the last century when the greater Chicago area was the drum capital of the world.

To answer CTMichaelV's question - the drum canister is actually a very early DW throne. It came with a used Camco kit I bought in the 70s. When I visited the DW factory in Oxnard CA about 10 years ago I saw one just like mine in the DW lobby. I had a lucky chance to chat with Don Lombardy a couple of years ago and asked him about it. He told me to email him some pics of it which I did. He replied that it was one of the first 40 that he and John Good had hand made for Camco when they first got started in the early 70s. It's built like a tank and I've used it on gigs for over 40 years. I can't believe I haven't broke the handle off !!

That is why I come here, you learn something new every day.

My bad, was going by my pre serial ludwig bass drum.

Leedybdp that came out nice. That drum that you emulated is mine and just for the record is an early 60's Ludwig school festival not a WFL. But in reality you could say pretty much the same

Drum Doug,

Can't really tell by the pictures but was curious what the Duco colors are on your set?

To me they look blue/silver.

Oh ya by the way cool story on the canister seat.

What happened to the Camco's?

I'd love to find a transition badged black and gold duco bass drum to match my '59 pioneer snare. I wouldn't add any toms, just have a cool Rockabilly kit.

The BD ST and SD are blue/silver and the marcher FT is blue/white.

I've attached a couple of pics of the DW canister throne. The big innovation with it was that you could adjust the height.

Wayne -

Here's the Camcos . They were a beat up mahogany wood stain. I refinished them with a pomegranate red wood stain and replaced the ST mounts with Rogers memory lock stuff that was hot at the time. This was back in the day before I had an appreciation for vintage gear. Still love this kit and have played many many gigs with it.
