1957-58 gretsch 3 ply value Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi, I am trying to figure out what kind of value I should put on my gretsch roundbadge set for insurance. It is a 1957-58 3 ply, 3 piece set in black diamond pearl. It has 22x14 bass, 14x14 floor tom, and a 12x8 rack tom. The shells are in great shape and the wrap looks amazing but has a few cracks on the floor tom, also the bass is missing it's badge. I had to get hoops for it. The hardware has a few pits on it and had to get new legs for the floor tom. It came with a matching 1965 Ludwig pioneer snare. I'll post a few pics. The hoops Have changed to diecast since the photos have been taken. If anyone could give me some info that would be great. Thank you.

-Minimum- insurance on those would be $2500. Higher if you can afford it. The 'value' is in the 14" floor tom.

Ok I was thinking about the same amount. Why is most of the value in the floor tom?

14" Gretsch floor toms from that era in good to excellent condition is a hot ticket item and rarer than hens teeth.

Edit: I just noticed that you mentioned cracks in the wrap on the floor tom... depending on how bad/extensive the damage is, it will affect value. Still, it is a rare size and people looking for 14's (which are many) would be able to pay a good price for it just to rewrap it and add it to their own kits. The value is still there, the wrap damage takes it down to the lower end of the scale of what you could have gotten had it been intact.

$3000 and settle for $2800. But why sell it? It's probably the best sounding kit on the planetClapping Happy2

Thank you for the info guys. The crack is about the size of a dollar. Im trying to figure out what is the best way to fix it so it doesn't get worst. there are a few spots that have tiny looking cracks, Almost like lots of little scratches. Is there a way to fix it or does that mean it will start crumbling and falling apart in that spot?

I doubt I will ever sell this set. I picked it up at a thrift store for 10 bucks not realizing what this set was exactly. Once I realized what it was after lots of research, It sparked a whole new interest in collecting and playing drums. I just want to make sure it's insured incase something happens to my home.

Hypodermic needle and your choice of glue, wipe off the residue...

FYI

Never play it the same way once.

Haha yeah I definitely feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this set. It basically has created an obsession in vintage drums haha.

Also thank you orangemi. I will give that a shot. Is there a specific glue to use, or is it just plain wood glue?
