1958 Ludwig Transition Badge 20x16 project Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

FOR SALE: Ludwig transition badge floor tom measuring 20" (deep) x 16" (diameter). Clear interior and the red date stamp appears to be December 16, 1958.

I received the drum in it's current condition. I'm assuming that the previous owner removed the wrap and added wood filler where the outer ply was damaged. Otherwise, it is solid and mostly complete. In addition to needing new wrap, the muffler needs new felt and the badge needs the correct grommet. Also, one tension rod appears to be different than the rest.

I bought it with plans to modify it, but have decided against that. I've also considered wrapping it, but I'm hesitant to do that and limit potential buyers to a specific color.

You can view more pictures using this link to my Google Drive account.

NOTE: Since these pictures were taken, I've removed and polished the hardware. I've also started the process of removing the old adhesive. It's basically ready to wrap.

$300 (US) + shipping.

If you want to calculate shipping costs, the box is 24"x18"x18" and weighs 16 lbs. My zip code is 30062.

Let me know if you need any additional pictures or information.

Thanks for looking!

That's a cocktail drum is it not? What head is on the bottom?

I think it has Remo Coated Emperors on top and bottom, which is what it had when I purchased it. (I have not played it given it's current condition.)

It seems to be a rare/custom size. I can't find a drum with these dimensions in the Ludwig catalogs. They did offer a 24x16 cocktail kit during these years and also an 18X20 Compacto kit (kick could be played either standing or traditional), but I don't see a 20x16 anywhere.

Given its 20" depth, it certainly would make sense to use it as a cocktail drum. However, I'm not aware of any holes where snare/tom/cymbal arms/mounts would have been.

If there are no takers, I may end up wrapping it and using it as a cocktail drum myself, but I would likely use Ludwig ATLAS mounts to avoid drilling any holes.
