1959 Leedy Silver Sparkle Last viewed: 35 minutes ago

Hello folks,

I have a 1959 Leedy silver sparkle set (14x22 inch bass, 9x13 inch mount tom, and 5 1/2x 14 snare) that I got at a garage sale. It didn't come with a floor tom. It came with the original Leedy throne, Leedy hi hat stand and a fiberboard case that I am not sure whether it is original or not (has a tag on the inside of the case that says "House of Quality".)

The one hoop on the bass drum requires some repair as it had come unglued at the seem. There is some paint missing from both hoops.

Their is some slight warping on the wrap of the bass drum as well.

It came with a "Marvel" snare stand and on the inside of the bass shell it is stamped with what looks like Feb. 15, 1959 and it is also stamped with P-040.

I sent the snare to a local repair shop a few years back to have the snares replaced, and they replaced the whole mechanishm (not what I asked them to do), but that put two new screw holes in the drum (the old holes now being exposed.) I do have the original mechanism still.

In the accessory box there is also some old stuff that may or may not be of interest: a slingerland woodblock mount, some old Premier brushes, a Leedy-Ludwig marching bass drum leg rest, and a couple old sticks/bass beaters.

After getting some feedback from folks, I am asking $650 for the set.

I live in the Chicago area. I am having a hard time uploading some pics. If you want some, please email me and I'll send them your way. Email is [email protected] I also have some pics posted in the "Vintage Drum Forum" from a few days ago, where I was successful in uploading. Check that out under "1959 Leedy Drums".

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks-

Steve
