1959 Slingerland's w/extras Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Well, I finally got around to posting some pix of my Slingerland kit. I play open-handed which is why it is set up this way. I have it sort of set up to have the accessories grouped in the middle of a standard four piece.

Drums:

13/16/22 w/ 5.5x14" Radio King snare

10" Pearl Firecracker Steel snare

Cymbals:

13" Mastersound hihats

Skiba modified 22" Ride

Skiba modified 20" Crash/Ride

Skiba modified 12" Splash/Crash

Evans Heads: Batter/Reso

Bass- EMAD clear/Retro Screen

Toms- J1 etched/J1 etched

RK Snare- J1 etched/300 orchestral

Pearl Snare- EC2 snare/300 hazy

Accessories:

Rhythm Tech Hat Trick

Slingerland cowbell and wood block

Hardware is mostly Pearl except the Gibraltar Flat based stand with extension arm. I am looking to upgrade the pedals and hardware next. I've done alot of tweaking to it to get the sound and functionality where I want it. I tune the 13" fairly high and the 16" low for some nice variation in sound. I also have the snares tuned very differently for the sound variance.

Thanks VM2K! I think I'm going to get two Gibraltar double braced cymbal/tom stands and have the ride&tom on one and the splash&crash on the other. Then, I want a DW 9000 single pedal and maybe the 9000 hihat stand.....or the 6000 flat based hihat stand....idk yet, haha. I'm saving as we speak ;)

Thanks Ed! Mike Skiba modified some Zildjian cymbals for me to sound just as I wanted them to. I went for an old K sound sound that projected well. Basically, I told Mike that I wanted the most versatility with a nice dark complexity....I love them all. The ride is probably my favorite...it crashes, rides, and has TONS of character to it.

Party foul? haha. It's a long story....here's the short one though.

I bought the set and then realized that the snare's factory beds were improperly cut at about the 1 o'clock and 7'o clock position. I sent it to a restorer with a request to have it working as it should from the factory. I got it back and the beds were to wide and deep to properly utilize the stock strainer. I had the Trick strainer laying around so I fabricated brackets to fit the STOCK mounting holes. I can use different types of wires now AND I can swap the factory strainer back if I wanted:D

Every "mod" I did, except the re-cut snare beds, are reversible....plus I keep all of the parts I have taken off. I also added 70's Slingerland floor tom leg mounts, the RIMS mount on the rack tom, and I removed all of the internal mufflers.

I wanted to preserve these drums while still allowing them to function to their full potential.

Hope this clears things up! :)
