Wrapped 1962 will most likely have mahogany/poplar/mahogany shells on the toms. Bass drum might have a bare maple interior. Wrapped 1968 probably will have mahogany/poplar/maple all around. Both layups have their fans, Ludwig sort of mixed and matched shells as they pleased back then (either year), whatever was on the shelf waiting to be used. 1962 will have the wrap integrated into the plies and may have the "hump" at the scarf joint. 1968 probably has the wrap put on after the shell was made so less likely to have the hump (but might still exhibit it). Club Dates have less mass bolted to the shells (which were the same ones used to make classics) so some folks (myself included) hear them to be a bit livelier sounding. Lacquered drums from either year will have a maple ply on the outside in place of the mahogany.

Really not that much difference based on this limited info since 60's Ludwig is kind of a crap shoot anyhow. Many consider the ones with the clear maple interiors (although that one ply and the re-rings are the only maple there on most of these) to be the high point of the Ludwig 3 ply line...but I think the pre Beatles mahoganys really have a nice thump to them and are nicely built. To each their own. I'd use other factors to decide between two sets (assuming that's what you want to do) including condition, color, and price.

Either have the potential to sound very good and either could exhibit minor "issues" that were built in by Ludwig.
