1960's Ludwig Snare - Is it a Refinish? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Can you guys verify if this is a legit snare or a refinish? I can't find a natural maple finish in any 60's Ludwig catalogs -- just mahogany. It appears to be a jazz fest, am I right about that at least?

I have an opportunity to buy this drum, but limited pictures (this is it). Thanks for your help!

Looks legit to my eyes... Yes, J-Fest, hard to really tell about a refinish without enlarging the photo. Id like to get a better look at the grommet.

Too many great drums to list here!

This was probably an original Duco lacquer that was stripped & refinished . The outer ply of lacquered drums was maple.

I think you guys are right with the duco refinish. Ludwig never made a drum like this in the 60's right?

Ludwig came out w/ a Thermo Gloss lacquer Natural Maple in 1970, for certain sets.

Sure looks like a refinish with the darkened areas of left over pigment in the grain. Maple kits are smooooooooth grain during these days of Ludwig and Slingerland builds.

hard to say. i'd lean towards a duco that was stripped and refinished. who cares though right? it looks great! i guess they could have always done a special order though huh?
