1960's Sky Blue Pearl Ludwigs Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hey all, this was my first big restore and now they are for sale! Here's what I did:

I first stripped off all of the interior paint (that I could) and re painted the interiors back to Ludwig White. There is a specific paint most closely matches the originals and that's what I used, not just random white paint I had lying around the house. While I had all the hardware removed, I cleaned it all with metal polish and got them shining again. Third on the list I did a coat of rubbing compound to get a lot of the minor surface scratches out of the wrap, and finished it up with a coat of wax. Hoops also got a fresh coat of paint and I did minor work to the wrap seams. They are all in great shape but the floor tom is still a little stubborn, nothing terrible at all. This kit is a true representation of what it looked like when it rolled out of the factory in the mid 60's. Now this kit is over 50 years old so it does have issues.

1). It has been switched from a rail mount to a pole mount. This was done VERY early on as many did in that day and age. You can tell because the fade on the wraps is consistent under the pole mount as is with the rest of the lugs. Aside from that NO EXTRA HOLES.

2). It has some rash on the bass drum where the toms rested through out their lives.

3). Minor pitting and scuffs on the hardware through out.

4). Minor scuffs and nicks on the original wrap. (aside from rash)

The serial numbers place the drums as follows: 12 -1969 13-1968 16-1966 22-1965

I'm confident the Kick and Floor came together and that the rack toms were a pair as well. How they ended up as a four piece we may never know but boy do they make a great kit! Not only does it look amazing, it has that great Ludwig sound. I used these drums (prior to restoring them) to record my entire last record. You can hear them at my bands website cowboyindianbear(dot)com

I have included pics of the old rail mount holes and the tom rash. The kits has all of its Ludwig hoops, T-rods and claws, wrap, and baseball bat mufflers. I even put a brand new set of Remo's on all the way around. This kit has about 2 months of my life into it as well as a year of recording. It really is a super kit and I'd like to see it continue to be admired. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask. I have done my best to describe any flaws that this set might still have. These items are 50+ years old and will have minor issues - they are not new. Looking for $1200 obo. Shipping will be around $125.

BTW -- Welcome to the forum! Good to see another Kansas member, as there aren't that many of us!

Like I said, the kit looks good... and I'm always tempted to keep everything I have, so don't feel bad!

Hey, I'm still holding on to some Club Date hardware for you. And, last week I located that 4th keystone badge... but I didn't put it with the other 3 yet, so it may need "locating" again! We need to get together again. I probably won't be up that way again until March or April, though, as my folks spend their winters in TX.

How's the band?

Well, I've got 2 computers beeping at me...

Later,

Bill
