Labor Day saw my old school country band Three Chord Justice play a gig we have come to love doing over the last 4 years.A really nice sort of upscale senior mobile home park with a huge recreation center complete with a big carpeted stage.It looks like 1974 everywhere & everything still looks brand new.Most of the folks here are quite up there in age but are really sweet folks. They all get done up in their cowboy best so its a treat for us to play this music to the folks who may have grown up listening to it. Not to mention we are fed & payed well for only an hour and a half gig.We keep our volume down big time at this gig so in deciding what kit to use, I took that into consideration.I decided this was the perfect gig for a set that needs to be babied so out came the Rogers Mardi Gras kit.I had plenty of time to set up, a very easy load in & out and the entire stage felt like Grandma's living room so it was a very safe environment. Needless to say, the drums sounded really full even at the low volume I played at.The kick has quite the thick boom & both toms project nicely. The snare took some tweaking but just loosening the snares a bit seemed to do the trick.For those wondering, I do have very slight cracks on some of the B&B lugs but nothing at all major. You really have to look to see them.And for that reason, I don't really mess with the tuning as they sound very good already. That being said, this is a kit I will not be bashing on & why it was perfect for this wonderful way to wrap up Labor Day.Cheers!
