1964 Slingerland Snare Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

Loading...

I am trying to identify a Slingerland snare. It is an all original 1964 vintage with the dimensions of 14" x 5.5" it's a chrome over brass and a serial # 49XXX.

Also what would people value this at?

Images of the snare are attached.

Cheers for your insight.

Is it yours or are you looking to buy it?

Looks an awful lot like my Slingerland Sound King snare. I had trouble pin-pointing it as well...bu the fine folks here steered me to the correct Slingy catalog pages on the site. Very cool snare!

Wait, my Sound King is an 8 lug, not 6.

It's a 'student model' Slingy snare, by that year I think it may have also been called a Sound King, but not for sure. Sorry about that!

Chrome over brass?

The snare in the pics is a wmp Deluxe Student model.

Am I missing something here?

Nice looking drum anyway.

EDIT: you answered my Question while I was posting. flower

The Sound King and student model drums aren't the same thing. The Sound King was Slingerland's high end metal snare -- chrome over brass shell with 8 or 10 lugs and Zoomatic strainer. The Deluxe Student Model pictured above was a six-lug drum with a three-ply wood shell and basic "rapid strainer".

Here are the catalog scans of both drums from the 1964 catalog (borrowed from the Vintage Drum Guide's catalog collection).
