Also, if you want to really increase the resonance and sustain of your floor tom, then you should set it on a block of styrofoam (or cut out some styrofoam cubes and stick them on the ends of the floor tom legs). I know it won't look as good, but, what happens with those original spring-loaded leg brackets is that they tend to really sap the resonance and sustain from the floor tom. It has to do with the springs acting like shock absorbers -except in terms of absorbing sound. The styrofoam will somehw counteract that effect....not sure how...but it does work!
Pearl makes some rubber feet called "Isolation feet" that serve the same purpose and also look really good....a little more expensive, but when you hear what the styrofoam will do for the sound, you'll probably want to give the Pearl iso feet a try!
