1965 Green Sparkle "Club Date" Ludwig Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to post some pics of a kit I just picked up. 1965 Ludwig Club Date kit in Green Sparkle. 20, 12, 14, w/ matching snare. The serial numbers on the bass drum and snare are in sequence and the tom serial numbers are within 10 of the bass and snare.

Pretty cool.

Now I just have to get some new heads.

Nice drums! You can also get a correct batter side bass drum hoop with the channel routed for the sparkle inlay strip which would really make it look sharp. And there are green sparkle inlay strips available....but it might not match the faded green as well. And get some correct T-rods & claws for the bass drum, too. Those little details really make a vintage kit look extra nice, in my opinion.

Green sparkle is a bugger to keep from fading. It's almost like, when you DO see a kit that isn't faded, it's likely a rewrap!

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Also, if you want to really increase the resonance and sustain of your floor tom, then you should set it on a block of styrofoam (or cut out some styrofoam cubes and stick them on the ends of the floor tom legs). I know it won't look as good, but, what happens with those original spring-loaded leg brackets is that they tend to really sap the resonance and sustain from the floor tom. It has to do with the springs acting like shock absorbers -except in terms of absorbing sound. The styrofoam will somehw counteract that effect....not sure how...but it does work!

Pearl makes some rubber feet called "Isolation feet" that serve the same purpose and also look really good....a little more expensive, but when you hear what the styrofoam will do for the sound, you'll probably want to give the Pearl iso feet a try!

wowwwwy. that is so cool man. they are a very nice collectable piece and also fun to play.

i can't tell if the hardware is nickel or chrome but if it's nickel i do have the set of 8 claws that you would need. i got some for my club date kit and ended up having extras.

also i don't know if you're missing the cymbal arm or not but i do have that too.

but anyways!

awesome!

Very nice

Love that green sparkle.

Just enough fade to give character, without being "fugly".

Cool

Take both BD hoops off,and run them one at a time thru your hands......

You would be surprised how many hoops are warped a bit at 1 point!

Nice kit/find!
