1965 Ludwig BOP/ What are these shells made of? Last viewed: 20 hours ago

I cant tell if these are Maple/Poplar/Maple or Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany? Hopefully mahogany... Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers!!!

Going by the shot of the edge.....it appears to be mahogany/poplar/mahogany.

agreed.

there are no rules with ludwig. but, usually the wrapped drums have polpar exteriors and the duco painted drums have maple exterior to absorb the paint better. early 60's had some clear maple interiors and so did 68 and later.

Just out of curiosity, why do you care? You weren't planning on taking the wrap off were you?

Yes I was going to take the wrap off. I was told IF the plys were Mahogany/Poplar?Mahogany its the same kind of kit Ringo played. Actually its supposedly the same year too as his 3rd kit. I just cant stand the Beatles & I think the BOP looks hideous!! So, I'm going to stop pulling your chain now & tell you that I'm thrilled to know I have a Ringo spec 1965 kit.

She's not mine yet, but I'm definetly buying her now knowing that the shells are Mah/Pop/Mah.. And getting rid of those hideous black cymbals. I also have a 1963 5.5.x14 BOP Jazz Festival that I'll be putting in place of that other snare too. I'll post more pics of the complete kit when I get it..

Beautiful looking kit, but are you sure it's a '65? Looks like it has knob mufflers and the later style rail mount.

+1 on the mufflers and the rail mount.If those drums are 65 they should have baseball bat mufflers.Ludwig went from red to white felt that year also.That rail mount wasn't used till 68 I think.Check the serial numbers on the badges with the guide on this site.That is one beautiful kit no matter.Send more photos.

Yeah I'd strip off that ugly BOP too and paint 'em black with a rattle can....insides too! Buy yourself some of those cymbals with holes in 'em, maybe drill some big holes in the drums too! Don't forget the hydraulic blue Evans heads, the extra thick ones.LoLoLoLoLoLoLoLo
