Have contacted seller to see if we can come to an arrangement with shipping/import...fingers crossed!?!?!?

Just make sure that bass drum is right with 4 spur mounts and no cymbal mount drilled. Could be a rewrapped something or other... Worst case scenario.

I'm not sure the tom mufflers are correct either. But I don't see any holes.

Lack of paint inside the bass drum is right for the times. As is the chalk 20 scrawled on it. Makes you wonder who would work at the factory if they couldn't tell just by glancing...after working there some time.

Mufflers look ok to me at first glance. The dual bass spur system may well be original. I'd have to do some serious desk research. Hopefully somebody else will know.

VAT and shipping will be expensive. I'm not sure if you have specific customs duty as well. I presume you will have VAT.

It is possible to ship in one box by nesting shells, but only if the hardware comes off the drums. Nesting can be done if somebody knows what they are doing, but is dangerous in the hands of wannabe wrappers. I'm not sure what the current limits are but there was a time when you could get away with shipping USPS (US postal service) and they were about half the cost of other courier companies. But they keep changing the limits on package size. You need to be very accurate with that or the cost may bite you by doubling. And thanks to volumetric pricing (as well as weight -- whichever costs you the most!) you need to be fully away of your shipping options.

Those of us who have to pay for international shipping learn the ropes or our wallet is quickly emptied. Our USA brethren don't always understand about the effect that has on pricing of vintage USA gear in the rest of the globe.

Judging by the feedback this is a good seller who knows his vintage gear. That's a good sign.

Good luck with it. Looks lovely.

Hi guys,

So have been doing some digging and found the original previous owners listing here...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-LUDWIG-VINTAGE-3-PIECE-DRUM-SET-Pre-Serial-Number-/181080787326?nma=true&si=KxhSl9K7a42RwgO6xSHb1XF6CEE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Interesting that it sold for $2500 and it's now on a buy it now for $1500???

Unfortunately I've been quoted $450 for shipping so unless I get it for a steal I may have to look elsewhere. Found a place in Italy that has this....

http://www.jackdrum.com/batterie-vintage/batterie-ludwig-vintage/batteria-vintage-ludwig-downbeat-black-diamond-pearl-drum-set-b84

as well as other kits.

Just to show you prices in the UK have a look here if you're interested.....http://www.rustydrums.co.uk/index.html

I've been up there and their kits are beautiful but imo way overpriced even for here!!!!

Enjoy??? Alex

Something complex going on behind the scenes?

Looks like the snare (one presumes a COB) was sold off separately for $559 to a user 44ziggy. There is feedback for that. Then an update to the listing that the snare isn't included in the auction. There is no feedback from the buyer of the kit who is reselling it now. So maybe some behind the scenes bargaining happened here and that's part of the apparent price drop from $2500 to $1500. That might not reflect the money which actually changed hands. So the kit which ended up for sale at $1500 may not represent a loss for the current seller who appears to be a canny and knowledgeable buyer.

Sometimes lots more goes on than you can see on the surface. eBay is not the transparent market you might wish it was. Oh, and serious players often have a few user names they buy under which are different from the one they sell under which is well known.

That shipping cost of $450 is what I was expecting. It's tough out there. I'm not sure what the cost might be from Italy. You need to check that too.
