1967 Ludwig Psych Red Downbeat Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I got this on Craigslist a year and a half ago. It's definitely a players kit. Matching numbers. I've never seen a psych red downbeat. I'm curious to know what some of you think these could be worth. I know they're worth whatever someone is willing to pay, but has anyone seen a kit in this wrap and configuration sell? What did it go for?

Thats a hip looking down beat man.. These are very rare but do pop up from time to time.. As far as the value..I'm interested to see what some of the experts here say. You came to the right place.

I just saw my first one of these at Revival Drum Shop in Portland this week. I think they still have it. It didn't have a price on it yet. The price they offer will probably be significantly cheaper than eBay prices, since it's Portland and all...

Has all the green faded out on those, or were they always red, white & blue?

My kit:

Oh...it does look the like green is gone off that kit doesn't it?

I used to work in the drum department of a now-gone music store here in Boston and had "Adopted" a psych red kit as my own & don't remember that much (if any) white in it.

Oh...and by "Adopted" I mean I knocked around on it while I was working, not....you know...walked out with it.

This appears to be the second style of Psych Red. There should be some green in there, but possibly not as much as in the first style. Attached is a picture of a Psych Red kit and you can see some of the green.

Idrum4fun, that seems to be the way I remember the Psych Red....

The kit I "Knew" was a Keystone badge kit with a white/grey speckle interior if that's any kind of clue.

I really don't know my "Ins and outs" as far as when Ludwig did what.

67 is early for that wrap though. don't know how that could be the second version at that early of a date.

Value??? my 2c worth... a 3 pc vintage keystone set in great condition might change hands in the range of $1500-1800. this set has a rare wrap, but also appears to be rough/faded. they dont come up that often. seller would likely ask for 2000, but never get it.

I just looked again and notice that these are not keystone. Forget everything I wrote - I have no idea what these might fetch.

You are most likely correct. This could just be due to a much different batch.
