1969 Acrolite Last viewed: 19 hours ago

My friend Al gave me this acrolite today. It had been in his storage for a long time. it looks pretty nasty but the shell is really in excellent condition. the serial number is 741369 keystone badge. According to the forum sreial number chart, this drum is one of the last keystone badges. the chart says keystone badges go through 741215. Also I've never seen one this color. it is a silver color. The rest of my acros are a greenish color or black tiny sparkle.

He also gave me a 13" blue/olive skyblue pearl tom that is in very ruff shape.

I can't wait to see it after YOU clean it up! It's going to look like a brand-new drum!

I stole the muffler and butt plate off of it to put on my citrus mod snare.

I had 2 small knob and 2 large knob mufflers. The large knob mufflers have a differnt bend to it. Im gonna steal another one off of the acro i got saturday.

They gor for arounf 40 on feebay. The screws on this butt plate looked brand new and shiney.

Nice Acro. On the cusp of the keystone to blue/olive transition all right.

I've collected a few serial numbers to try and add to the date stamp and serial number database. I've recorded from eBay these other cusp serial numbers:

748700 Acro ks no date stamp

745548 supersensitive ks Aug 22, 1969

734xxx supersensitive 6.5 ks Nov, 4, 1969

748866 supersensitive ks Sep 4, 1969

737080 acro ks Aug 11, 1969

Remember those serial number charts don't mean "this is precisely where keystone serial numbers stopped". They mean "this is the last number for which we have evidence at this time". Thanks to eBay more evidence keeps coming to hand.

I've also gone the other way and looked for the earliest blue/olive badge serial numbers but that's less clear because of those blank ones messing things up.

My interest arose because of my "cusp" Ludwig blue/olive kit which includes a 12" tom drilled for a keystone badge but fitted with a b/o serial 760998.

The reason it's silver is because it doesn't have anything sprayed over it like the newer ones. I say it's a first generation Acro. Love it, it's just like my very first drum. Would you part with it?Cool1

Agreed. I always love reading poppy's work-ups of the drums he brings back to life. Very informative and interesting stuff he does. :)

After I get my citrus mods all put back together im gonna get this acrolite going. I plan on stripping the shell and clean it with glass cleaner and a rag and see how it looks. I know its made of luddalloy which is a aluminum alloy made specifically for Ludwig. I have no idea how to restore this shell and make it look right. I dont want it to look chrome like or like brushed aluminum.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on this?
