BEAUTIFUL DRUMS!!

As far as a collector's point of view is concerned, the Rogers spikes are problematic. I understand that people did things like this -mixing parts, that is, but the collectors want original everything within the brand name. Still, it's a gorgeous kit and would undoubtedly sound like it's supposed to sound, regardless of spurs. The thing that gets me is that the original Ludwig jazzette spurs would have been spikes, too. DOH

The muffler knobs are original to a kit from '69. Baseball bat mufflers were discontinued sometime in early 1968 in favor of the rotary knobs.

Thanks for the great pictures!! Congratulations on a wonderful kit!!!

It's difficult to say for sure...

IF it was 100% Ludwig, then that kit would be pushing $4K , in my opinion. As it is with the Rogers spikes...mmmaybe $3K. It IS the nicest maple Jazzette I have seen yet...except for those darn spurs!

If you wanted a jazz set, then, my friend, you have FOUND it!! Most professional jazz guys who have played all their lives don't have as nice a kit as that one!

I also dont want to get to greedy because i am so greateful for coming across this kit. That said Max Roach is my all time favorite drummer and it would be my dream to own a gretsch Round Badge with a 18,12, and 14. Is it reasonable to think that someone would trade me a gretsch in those sizes for this kit. Thanks Alot

Gretsch kits in those sizes go for about 4 times what you paid for the Jazzette. The last one I heard of being sold was a private sale and went for $10,000!

What about a roundbadge with a 20 inch kick

You could probably trade a nice RB 20-12-14 for that kit. But I would try to hold onto it, or at least compare the two and see which you prefer. All the jazz guys play RB Gretsch kits. It's nice to have something unique.

Thanks for the info i was just wondering if it was possible. I am definitely going to hold on to this kit, I love Ludwig drums but i do have an itch for gretsch since so many drummers i like play gretsch.

RE: those spurs...it's possible, and likely, that the Rogers spurs were put on using the existing holes from the original Ludwig straight spurs.

I wouldn't trade those for a set of Gretsch...they're a rare and special set.

The rail on the Ludwig is MUCH better than what you'll find on a Gretsch.

You'll never have trouble getting heads on them either. If you want that Great Gretsch sound on them, just tighten the heck out of the heads...

Yeah...and there are about ten times the number of Gretsch jazz kits out there compared to the extremely rare Jazzette. keep in mind, Ludwig wasn't known for their bebop kits! Gretsch may be more valuable now...but just wait!
