once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Nice kit, Gar! What kind of snare is that?

I need to get a vintage ludwig snare to go with the rest of the set. It would be nice to have the matching snare, but those are rare and very expensive.

Any recommendations for a snare that would be a good fit for this kit?

It's a '66 Ludwig Acrolite snare, all around great drum.

A Ludwig Supraphonic would go well w/ your kit, or an Acro.

Heck, get both!

Cool! I've got an early 80's acrolite I've been meaning to fix up. A supraphonic would be great too. Luckily, I've got a drum shop near me that specializes in old ludwigs.

Just cleaned it up and converted it to a 4-piece:

From zenstat

Yes 755xxx could well be late 1969. I've recorded a few more badge numbers on drums with date stamps since the other published lists were compiled. I got interested because I've got a 760xxx kit. The changeover from keystone to blue/olive is supposed to be at 750xxx (give or take) and I haven't seen an exception to that yet. All the keystones I've recorded are less than 750xxx and all the blue/olives are, like yours, over 750xxx. I've recorded 754865, 755614, and 755295 (all blue/olive). But alas, they had no date stamps. I presume yours don't as well?

Do you have an exact month for the changeover? I always thought it was august or september. I'm sure the new badges trickled in while the old ones were used up. I also think that Sep 1970 must have been an interesting month for Ludwig. There is an oyster blue bass drum on ebay right now with 60's style oyster blue, B/O badges and fold out spurs. The bass drum has a Sep 1970 date stamp in it. Not the first stime I have seen a strange sep 1970 drum. I saw a date stamped acro once with the sep 1970 date stamp and it had a keystone badge! makes me wonder if Ludwig found a bunch of mid 60's leftovers and got rid of them.

Beautiful! That black bowling ball finish is extremely cool. A nice change from the more common wraps. I bet the kit sounds terrific too.

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)
