1976 Ludwig Big Beat Kit Last viewed: 6 hours ago

This is my Ludwig Big Beat kit that I bought brand new in 1976. It came with White Marine Pearl and I sold it in 1995. I tracked it down in Kansas(I live in Texas) and bought it back. It was in bad shape and wrapped in black Sparkle. I re wrapped them in Black Oyster Pearl. The picture at the bottom is the kit in it's original wrap at the time, complete with roto-toms.

Very nice ! But i thought mid 70's Ludwig kits had the blue/olive badges ?

I always thought that reso head design was pure genius, especially with that wrap. Can't say enough about it in fact...awesome kit, great story.

Good catch on the badges! You are absolutely correct! The original kit had the olive badges with the modern Ludwig logo. Sadly, when I bought the kit back, the old badges were gone. With that said, I decided to make it a modern kit that I could gig with, but with appointments(such as the wrap and the badges) that gave a nod to Ringo. Jack Lawton of Lawton Drum Company helped me with the wrap and keystone badges. AWDrums helped me with the Magical Mystery Tour "Love" head.

While the collectors value of the kit has been diminished with all the modern appointments, its priceless to me. I still remember the day those drums arrived at Alamo Music in San Antonio when I was 14.

Never even thought about the badges being missing. You did a great job restoring her. Looks fantastic. You're right you can't put a price on sentimental value.

OMG you must of been heartbroken to see the kit so badly beaten up. Badges gone and all!

Yes, I was a bit disturbed with the condition the kit was in, but my heart was warmed that it came back to me. It was like having a lost old friend back. I am currently adding a few pieces:

1959 - Ludwig 14x20 Bass Drum

1966 - Jazz Festival Snare Drum

Early 70 12x15 Rack tom converted into a floor tom
