SOLD!
Offering a pair of 14 inch 1986 Paiste 404 Sound Edge Hihats. These are on the rare side - as I have only seen one other pair for sale in the last 5 years.
Known for more of a trashy sound - the 404s have garnered a professional respect by cymbal/drum enthusiasts in recent years despite being a beginner cymbal line when new.
404 too thin? Nope - not these, because they are Sound Edge. Good for any genre and can hold up under heavy play.
Top: 960 grams
Bottom: 955 grams
You can use this Sound edge bottom with anything on top and it has that SE effect. (I love playing the HH shuffle swap game)
Now - I must disclose here that there used to be a dent in this top, but I popped it out and as you can see and hear, there are no ill effect and it sounds great.
BUT WAIT! That's not all I am offering here - I am throwing in, as a bonus a 1981 Paiste 2002 Sound Edge Top. Also 14inch, this one used to have a dent in it too - but again, I popped it out and indeed I can not even tell where it was (and I forgot). As you can see and hear - no ill effect and it sounds great.
2002 Sound Edge Top: 995 grams
Normally these would be worth at least $150 for all three, but I am trying to pass on the good deals that I got and am in a position I have to let these go. Truth be told, I have discovered a replacement for my B8 HHs and no longer need these 404s.
I love the 404s and everything they represent - the underdog that shocks everyone and sounds great - likely the only student beginner cymbal to garner professional respect and hidden gem status - to this degree - such that the 404 HHs are always earning a sale price on par with used top-of-the-line models on the market today.
If you are the first to find this - perhaps your lucky day and I do not predict these to last long.
Price on these (all three cymbals) is $110 plus shipping from 49285. PP and we are good to go - will ship on Monday.
More details: No keyholing or fleabites on the 404s; only small flea bites on the 2002 - not threatening to a crack (IMHO) If I were keeping it, I would file them down - but will let you do that if you wish. See pic of the 2 bites by my finger/thumb.
Serial numbers (see pics): (404s are sequential)
404 Top: 617974
404 Bottom:617973
2002 Top: 119803
I have made a very informative and indicative video - so check it out:
The EQ was flat for this recording (also used an SM58 when I should use a condenser mic), though I think these sound brighter in person than on this video:
