Those are the snare beds, which were the same on the supras as on the super sensitives.

Yes,without snare beds the drum would choke in terms of sensitivity and response.

Most snares have them in varying degrees of width and depth.

Some drum corps style marching snares do not and use special zero collar snare side resonant heads to work correctly.

The way the snare beds on most modern snare drums are designed is to "fool" the snare head into thinking it's flat. In other words, they're very gradual and wide, sometimes not even noticeable when the head is tensioned properly.

Drums like the Rogers Dynasonic, while it's said that they have no snare bed, but they actually do, and it's only (barely) visible when checked on a flat surface, without heads on.

BTW, the drum in your pictures looks like a Supraphonic, rather than Super Sensitive. The difference would be that the strainer mechanism

on the SS would have a different drilling pattern, with holes to allow for the parallel mechanism rod to pass all the way through the shell (above the bead). Otherwise, the shells are the same.

Also notice that the snare beds are (or should be) centered where the strainer and butt side are drilled.

It's not a super sensitive. The snare beds are factory and perfectly normal looking...

I'm sure it's a super sensitive, here is an extra photo when the SS strainer and all are attached. The third and fourth hole for the rod are not visible on the photo's I have already send. They are slightly higher, and didn't make it on the picture.

Is it normal that the rim of the reso head gently touches the strainer mechnism (steel part attached to the shell)?
