1978-79 Era Ludwig Vistalites? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hello Experts,

I’ve had a Ludwig drum set for years that I bought used around 1986. It’s a combo set with some older white acrylic drums (s/n range 1660xxx) and an additional Bass and two wing toms (s/n 3060xxx). I don’t know if the older pieces are Vistalites as I’ve never seen a set like it on any website…solid white, deep shells, concert toms. 3 newer pieces have wood shells. All have Blue and Olive badges circa late 70's. All had Ludwig Rockers silver dot heads when I bought them. Does anyone have any idea what I have here? Thanks for any help or insight you may be able to provide!

Hi Wayne,Photos of the older Combo drums..Ludwig made Combo drums in 1980 these drums were the three ply shells with painted insides these shells were the same ones Ludwig made the top of the line sets out of..When Ludwig change to the 4 ply clear maple shells in late 1979 they came out with sets of Combo shell sets these drums were only sold in the sizes of 12",13",14",16" toms aand 22",24" bass drums...Also these drums had a black and silver badge that said Combo on them Combo dums never has a blue/olivo badges....Mikey

It's a beauty.

The white acryilic drums are definitely Vistalite drums. Looking at the skinny leg I would assume they are early/mid 70's before they switched over to the heavier arced spurs like the ones on the bass with the wooden shell.

If you do any maintenance, be careful to not over tighten the lugs screws as the shells can crack.
