1978-79 Ludwig USA kit - Help! Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hey Guys and Gals,

I posted this under "vintage drums" too but figured this might be a better place for it... I inherited a 78-79 natural finish Ludwig USA kit, and I have no idea even of a ballpark of what it's worth. I'm asking because I am interested in selling it and getting something that more fits my style, possibly a newer Gretsch or something of the like. The serial number on the kick is 1927812, and it has 4 retractable legs that curve down to the ground instead of the usual two. Toms are 10, 12, 14, and 16, and all only have a top rim, open on the bottom. It has 2 crashes, a ride, a spash, and a set of hats, all of which I was told are the zildjians which were the top of the line in their day. The hardware is all there, including hi hat stand and a ludwig ghost pedal, and it has a Rogers dynasonic snare with it, serial number 47639. The kit is in perfectly good shape, just needs some dusting and polishing and general TLC. Anybody have any idea? I'm clueless when it comes to vintage drums. Thanks in advance and my apologies for being drum-ignorant... haha.

D' Drummer Yes, I agree, please post some pics. of this set. It sounds like an incredable set. You would never get the sound these drums have from a newer Gretch or something. Don't get me wrong here please, I just saying you have a very nice set of drums on your hands.....Joe

Killer set of drums I would keep them either do the work yourself or get someone to drill all the drums for bottom hoops and take the 14 and make another floor tom out of it it would be a killer set...and the cymbals look like good ones would need to see the stamp marks on them to tell for sure..

Do you know of anybody reputable in southern california that could do the work? I would love to keep them and use them, but I definitely need bottom heads for the kind of stuff I play, and I would be interested in shortening the rack toms a couple inches because they are rather long and I play my rack toms lower than they are able to go... I'm sure it would be a bit of a task as far as cutting down and redoing the edges, but if you know anyone or know anyone who knows anyone who could do the work, it would be worth it for me to keep the kit. Thanks again for the replies!
