2 more gigs until my operation Last viewed: 53 minutes ago

As I stated in a previous post, I have been gigging with a tube leading from my gall bladder into a bag strapped on my leg since the middle of February, after recuperating for a few weeks. I had initially started cancelling gigs, but realized that I could play in this state. Tonight and tomorrow are my last 2 gigs and I see the finish line approaching!

Throughout this process I have gotten better at playing heel-down as it is a lot less work for the abdomen. I have been setting up my kits really low, especially the cymbals, so I don't have to raise my arms to high. My band mates have been real troopers!

Apart from drumming without the cyborg equipment, the real joy is going to be taking a bath in more that 6 inches of water and sleeping in more than one position! As Joni sang: "Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you've got till it's gone".

I used to play mostly heel up, But some years ago after playing close to 3 hour plus gigs just evolved to heel down, I like it so much more, The Dw 5000AD pedal that I use has a nice long flat angled foot board for just my style of playing. I have never understood mounting cymbals to where one has to reach for them?. I place my entire kit for ergonomics. Great luck getting back to good health, Keep us informed.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

We're all keeping a good thought for you brother... it'll all be over soon and you'll be able to get back to business as usual. Hey, try wiping your as$ with your other hand! Talk about not knowing what you have till it's gone. Simple tasks can become mission impossible when there's some physical impediment preventing normal routines. It'll all be history shortly. Hang in there.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I am sure your surgery will go well!Be sure to give your bandmates the credit they deserve for hanging with you.My guys stuck with me through 2 lower back surgeries and one of them was a real mess. They used subs but never had a thought about replacing me.You can't find loyalty many places in this world today but most musicans I know are worth their weight in gold when it comes being loyal.Hats off to all who hang tough when it would be easier to bail.Again,Poodle, take your recovery seriously and heal up quickly!Jim
