emad is a great choice ! or cut hole in front head and put in a kickport !

the kickports are down to like 33 bucks.

I love my PS3. I have mine cranked up to high heaven for that Big Band sound.

Emad would be a good modern sounding head, also I hear the Powerstroke is great. When I was with the pipe band they had 2 on the 28" bass drum and that thing had a mighty sound that I still dream about.

I am also happy with a PS3 on a 24x14 Slingerland. I have a Falam patch fitted and use a felt beater.. front head is an Emad and I receive positive comments from many on the deep tone and punch.

EMAD Coated on my 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's with a 14X24. The coated EMAD will give you even MORE of the low/fundamental, yet retain plenty of "punch" out front with either no port, or a small one. The front reso head establishes the "presence" of the drum. I have been playing this combination forever with GREAT results! Here's a "driver's seat pic:

I have an '80 Superstar with a 24x14". The 'bounce' is mainly due to the head size, you'll get used to the feel of it after a while. My Tama loves a clear Emperor batter (no patch or anything), nothing inside, Smooth White Ambassador on the front without a port and a rolled up t-shirt/tea-towel between the pedal frame and batter head. Tuned 'medium-ish' both sides, possible a little lower than what most would call medium. At the point where the heads resonate a clear (but deep and low) note without any of that timpani vibe going on. The heads are tight enough to give it a heap of punch but not riiiing and the size means the overall sound is low with big cajones. The shirt just takes off a little of the ring on the batter. No basketball sound either, even though the kick is empty and has two solid (non-coated) heads.
