26" Ludwig Hoops and 70's Interior Question Last viewed: 15 minutes ago

From t.c.

I've understood it that Ludwig went from white to clear in '68-'69ish, then to granitone in '71ish, then back to clear in '76, then 6-ply in late '76ish-'77. I have a BDP kit I'm working on that's bass drum is 1970 and rack toms are 1976 and all are 3 ply with clear interiors.

Yes at least on the first part. I have another kit with keystone badges, clear interiors, and stamped November 1969. I have a 1968 orphan floor tom with white interior. My 1976 Ludwigs don't have date stamps, but they do have clear interiors.

The Questions was for "Early" 70's not 70's in general, look at Bonham's kits for an example his keystone badged thermogloss kit was clear Interior, his green sparkle kit was Granitone. and the time table I gave is not set in stone as anything ludwig is.

His green sparkle was a clear interior. Bonham's daughter pictured with one of his kits.

Not to stir it up more but I think I remember reading Bonham had three or four green sparkle kits. Not sure where I read that but I seem to remember hearing he had a few. Any truth to that?

According to the book "A Thunder Of Drums" by Chris Welch and Geoff Nicholls Jeff Ocheltree is quoted as saying John Bonham had three green sparkle kits and recorded about four albums with them. Pat Bonham John's widow has the 1971 kit which he used on Zep IV and the 71' tour. another green sparkle kit is said to be owned by a collector in Upstate NY. This same book claims Bonham had a Silver Sparkle kit that he got around 1975 but I have never seen a picture of it. I have also heard that the green sparkle kit that is featured in the "Trust Your Ears" video is somewhat misrepresented as an original Bonham kit.

Here's a link to a video Jason had taken inside Old Hyde Bonzo's estate All of John's gold records are displayed. the green sparkles are looking pretty dusty and there appears to be a vista reissue kit pretty eerie. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE-5hV4nS1o&feature=related[/ame]
