28" bass drum... 26" deep... rediculous?? Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

Hey everyone, I've been searching, and trying to figure out what exactly these drums are...

I was told that the hardware looks 60's-70's Slingerland..?

The kick is 26x28!!! I really dont think anyone manufactured this size though.

So I'm guessing they must be a custom kit.

There are no badges or anything to identify them by..

They are coated with some kind of gray textured coating, on the inside...

I heard Slingerland did do this to some of their drums in the 60's.???

Ive seen some old Roger's with similar coating..

I'm not sure if anyone would be able to help me identify these things, but if you think you can help, I'll get some pictures up soon, so you can have a look.. It's a long shot, but I figured I should at least give it a shot..

Thanks in advance..

That's silly why would you want a little drum like that when you could have one like this?

would you happen to be in so cal and that the kit is green in something like a 7 pc? i met a guy who has what he thinks is a 60's/70's slingerland kit in crazy sizes.

i seen a tom and what little i know about slingy, the shell look to be original.it is a odd kit for sure.i used to work for a custom drum company,so i would of been able to spot a custom kit. but it looks aged and the hdwr is slingy.

it was re-painted for sure.i thought if it is the real deal,it might of been a custom kit for a artist or for a trade show. but for the time period,it does sound odd that it doesn't have badges or not drilled for mounts.

i'm also not saying the guy's trying to rip someone off.he seemed to be a stand up guy for sure.and if its not the same guy...disregard.

^ Yeah dude!! Thats the one...

It's the 28" kick, and a 13", 14", 16", 18", and 20" toms... Definitely odd sizes, with the depths they have... I dunno, I just figured I should pick them up, and maybe do like a mild restore on them, and most likely sell them later on...

I'm not too experienced in the vintage drums department, so I'm trying to get an idea of whether or not it would be worth it to put more money into these things..

They've definitely been re-painted, and need some touch up... Quite a bit actually.

From what he was saying, he thinks they could be like an old custom set as well, maybe keller shells, and Slinger hardware and junk... I'm not too sure, and since they're coated on the inside, it's hard to tell what wood was used... It's definitely light though...

Pics tomorrow... Fur show!!

i wanted to post pics here as well but thought about it after the fact.it is a head scratcher.

the hdwr and shells look original as far as i can tell. the shell interiors are sprayed with that salt n' pepper coating. it looked too clean and not aged,BUT not new...ya know what i mean?

reinforcement hoops are something like 1" wide, and he said all drums are virgins. i can tell if they were kellers since i used to work at a drum company, but for all i know they could be. when i took off the head it smelled older.OR maybe someone used some other brand of vintage shells from the period and put on slinglt hdwr.there's no extra or filled holes that i seen.

if i remember correctly, for what he's selling them at...its not a bad deal for the sizes and the amount of drums included.but pics would be great if possible.

Back in the late 80's i built alot of sets like that the shells i were N.O.S. Roger's-[When Roger's closed it's door's they sold off the shell's,ete, ete that they had in so.ca.} shells 5 ply with 5ply rings in maple..Shell's were un-drilled and no edge's...I had over 1000 shell's from 6" up to 30"...I made alot of set's at that time out of these shell's custom bass drum size's...I wish i did keep the photo's of the listing i don't see it listed anymore....Mikey
