3 Ply Slingerlands Last viewed: 7 hours ago

I am thinking of purchasing a set of Slingerlands. They are 3 ply maple with maple re-rings. I want a vintage sound but one that is good for rock as well and that can cut through. Should I be looking for 5 ply, or will these do the trick?

Agreed. I've used both in my band.

If I am mic-ed I go with whichever one isn't set up in my house currently. If its not mic-ed I go with the 5 ply since they project a little better.

Either way they both sound awesome

I don't have tom mics when I play out, but I don't play huge rooms...hopefully they project enough for the 2 vocal mics to pick up.

3 ply will do the trick! But you cant go wrong with either!

3 ply is the way to go. I have a 20" bass 13" tom 14" snare with original hardware i may sell in pearl blue glass glitter.

I played a 5 ply kit out for the past 2 years or so in small bar/club settings where the only drum mic'd was the bass drum. I don't think I have ever had so many compliments on the sound of a drum set I have played. They were loud enough to cut through just about anything and the tone was killer. I learned how to tune them to just about any room after awhile and they always sounded amazing.

I don't know man. I LOVE the 5 ply Slingerland stuff. Plus for the money it is just a no brainer. I love the 3 plys too but usually they are a little more expensive (not that Slingerland drums are ever EXPENSIVE)....basically what I am saying is there is no possible way to go wrong playing Slingerland drums....unless you over tighten the floor tom leg mount wing screws. Thats the one way to go wrong.

Slingerland's are indeed the BEST vintage drum deal out there. If the kit is in any kind of shape, the price is right and you like the look, get 'em.

You won't be disappointed.
