3-ply versus 6-ply drumkit video Last viewed: 4 hours ago

A while back there was a Youtube video someone here had done of a side-by-side comparison of a vintage and modern kit. Anyone have that link still?

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16

That is cool, but not the one I was thinking about. The one I'm remembering featured a guy playing a few minutes on a three-ply kit and then a few minutes on a six-ply kit.

Really neat video. To me, they all sound pretty close. The vintage 1973 Ludwig kit does have a slightly deeper sound and doesn't resonate as much as the other kits.

I think the 2009 Legacy Ludwig kit was keeping up with the vintage kits. The downside is it will run you around $2800, but it sounds like Ludwig got this one right.

Please post more of these comparisons. They're great training for your ears.

Pretty cool video...but deceptive. Because the drummer is hitting the drums in a way that only provides the maximum sound output from the drums. In other words, the video shows how the drums sound when they are played at full volume.

However, for me, I can't tell what those drums would sound like played very lightly with so-called "jazz" tuning....which is what I would want to know about.

For this reason, I would also like to see a similar video done with three "bop" kits played very lightly.

I do applaud the way that video was done and what it does show, though. Cool!

Legacy Bass gets best in show,Slingy Ride tom sounds choked or "tapped off",overall I like the 73's best, but I agree ludwig got it right with the Legacy series, who knows what those will sound like after aging in for 10 or 20 years.
