42 Gretsch Defender set Last viewed: 1 minute ago

Very nice restoration job! Well done. Those old Defender sets are cool.

I'm curious as to the bass drum size. Is it an even number like 22" or 24"? Also, is the bass drum 14" or 10" depth? The reason I ask is that many of the Defender bass drums were odd sizes. I have a pair of Defender bass hoops w/ wmp inlay and they are 23 inches or something odd like that. I'm not sure why Gretsch chose to go with non-standard sizes back then.

Thank you, The bass drum is actually 11.5" X 24 3/4" and I have two this size. I don't know why the odd sizes. I also have 10" X 27 1/2" and an 11" X 28 1/2" Defender bass drums as well. All of these measurements are of the bare drums. It makes it so difficult to find heads for these bass drums. I have been very fortunate, that all of these bass drums have the original heads and are in excellent condition. I would love to find a factory WMP Defender kit. I haven't found a listing yet that shows that wrap as an option. Once I put one of these kits together, I was hooked. If you any info on the Defender kits, please let me know. Glen

There are some photos of wmp Gretsch Defenders on this web page (near the bottom of page):
