43 years from Woodstock Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Four of us took off from North Dakota after we see it on the news the first night. About two and half hours into the drive we got a skip signal from WLS in Chicago.

DJ says on the air. " If your heading to Woodstock you won't make it.

The New York Turnpike is closed because of all the traffic."

Bummmer. We made a U turn and headed back home. After the Movie came out we were really bummed. Would have been something you would have never forgotten.

Hey, Pops!

Maybe it might be an interesting idea to see how many of our members actually attended the event! In addition, it could be fun to learn why some of us did not make the "happening". So guys, especially you older types, why don't you share your stories? This would be really groovy. Fab. Gear. Come on guys! I know that I'm not the only old **** out there!!!

Man, I was going to stay out of this one because I never got to go, but... there is a story connected to my not going!

I'm a native New Yorker, I grew up in uptown Manhattan. (Washington Heights) My friends all went to Woodstock and they invited me to go with them. The 'story' is; they all pulled up in an old VW van one of my buddies owned and told me to hop in, they were on their way to Woodstock. I told them I couldn't go because I was broke. They all started yelling at me, "Come on, we have money!" Then I told them, "I really can't, I have a date tonight." They all razzed the Hell out of me for giving up a concert for 'poon-tang' they closed the door and took off. It was my one and only chance to attend the festival.

The date I gave up the trip for was with the woman who later became my wife for 37 years. It was our first date and I didn't want to give that up for anything. I'm glad now that I did. I have two wonderful grown children and four grandchildren to show for the decision. I -did- get to go to the 25th anniversary concert though!

Ahhh, Life... turn right, Life goes one way, turn left, Life goes another way. Glad I made the call I did make. It's been a good Life.

John - What a long strange trip it's been!

I would have gone but I was only 13 and my parents would have nothing to do with it! Older brothers and friends older brothers were going but I couldn't tag along on that one! We tried to go to the Chicago democratic convention the year before to see Sly and the Family Stone but that got nixed also, got caught walking to the bus, that was a blessing!!

As I stated earlier we sent for the early tickets i think they were 6 bucks but decided to stay in Va beach and watch the Allman brothers band after all they had 2 drummers and a truck load of motorcycles and they played like 3 hours... that weekend started a 40 years long association with the ABB which is still going today....I have probably 350 live shows from the ABB and still love the early years...... slide guitar ,blues, do I miss not going ? sure but hey then it was no big deal after it was like crap we missed history, but in all honesty talking to people that did go it was a muddy, wet, mess and the storms and stuff made it not much fun... and that was from friends who could even remember what they were there for.... :)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

You are a very wise man, jaghog. Like John, you have your priorities stacked in the right order. Sure, if I could go back, I'd change a few things. Sure, I've made a lot of mistakes. On the other hand, I am grateful for the loved ones I have. I'm a very lucky man!!!
